Track of the Week

GUYS!

This song is my fucking jam right now, holy shit.

Think for yourself.
You have to be willing to cut against the grain and get the distance from your peer groups.
And not only that, but you have to have a habitual vision of greatness.

BOOM. Truth fucking bomb and then DANCING.

Olympic Ayres - Control

This duo is for the pleasure-seekers and the trouble-makers. Irrefutably catchy dance beat that makes you want to drop everything and take a road trip. Sun-soaked and highly dance-able have put these guys way way up on my radar.

Even though the song is about not being in control, these guys are definitely in control of their fucking disco revival.

Love always,
Nicole

Track of the Week

In honour of my bestie leaving me in t-minus: one month, I have decided that this week's track of the week will be an ode to our friendship.

The Virgins - Hey Hey Girl

I have memories driving through Melville with dodgy people, doing dodgy things, listening to this album. Because it was literally the only thing we listened to for a year.

I know that The Virgins are for some reason hated, like this is an actual quote from NME - "These feckless wasters are destined for the ninth circle of hell. where they'll be frozen in the icy lake of Cocytus while The Might Boosh band play in the background, their heads in the mouth of Lucifer (who is, in this fantasy, Henry Rollins), their backs forever being skinned by his claws." They however also said this, "despite all this, this album is jam packed with pop hits; the most vomit-inducing shamelessly hipster band we've ever clapped eyes on might have well made one of the hits of the summer."

Needless to say, even though my best friend is leaving me to start a gang in Cape Town called Metaface, where he'll be leader and they will call him numero uno, I will still have this album and free accommodation in Cape Town. So, it's not all bad.

Love always,
Nicole.

An Open Letter: To The Girl That Over Thinks

To the girl that over thinks,

I know that at this point you are too nauseous to even read this, but just power through it - like you always do. I know that your hands are ice cold and a shade too pale. I know that you have to remind yourself to breathe (Take a deep breath as you read this). I know it's hard to concentrate. I know it's hard to focus on anything other than the continuous whirlwind in your head. I know that you're reeling.

I just want to tell you it's okay.

I know that the pressure is building in your head. I know it feels like you're about to explode.

I also know that you're going to be fine and that you probably won't believe me, but that's fine too, because when it does end up being okay, I'm just happy that you will be able to breathe without that massive weight on your chest.

I know that you haven't slept, and that if you have, it wasn't even worthwhile. I know that the thought of eating is unfathomable but I need you to take care of yourself because sometimes you do damage to yourself that can't be undone.

Don't be weighted down by the stress. Don't let those around you weigh you down even further, if they are not understanding. There are those who do understand. Don't feel guilt for feeling, it doesn't matter what you're feeling, you should never feel guilty.

One more thing, it's easy to be cynical, it's easy to be sad, it's easy to want to just lay in bed, it's easy to feel this way. All you can do is, try.

Love Always,
Nicole

Track of the Week

I'm not sure what's happened, but looks like we're going to have a Track of the Week that's on time. This is what I believe to be known as a miracle of fucking note.

Since you (the reader) don't know me aside from this blog, you will not know that I am extremely susceptible to crushes. You know how some people are more susceptible to getting the flu like every week, exactly like that.  It appears to be happening again, fucking hell.

So this weeks track of the week...

I'm Into You (Moneyneck Remix) - Chet Faker

The perfect balance of romance and dance music, so that you're like kind of sad but also you can dance yourself clean of these fucking dumb feelings.

Love Always,
Nicole

Tracks of the Weeks (Again)

So I've done it again, and I'm just going to blame it on the fact that my internet is fucking around and I got a new job.

Sorry,

I'll be better, probably.

Anyway, just be happy, 'cause two new tracks of the week.

Black Space (T. Swizzle cover) - Our Last Night

These guys are always on top form when it comes to their covers, so I suggest you check those out as well.

King - Years & Years

I am not exaggerating when I say that these guys can do no wrong. Pretty much every song these guys have released have been on point. They are easily my favourites at the moment - but I will go into more detail about that in a post coming soon.  Also, the music video is SO phenomenal.

Till next week. (Maybe)

Love always,
Nicole.
